The other neighbour, from the opposite side
In MPIS terms Hungary is an important cross-border market we haven't yet entered. The shared border is 678 km long, making Hungary geographically the second-closest neighbour (after Czechia). From Prešov to Miskolc is 2 hours, to Debrecen 3, to Budapest 4, to Pécs 8.
For EU working regimes Hungary is special — there's no locale on our website (sk/en/de/es/pl/nl doesn't cover HU), but the team has a Slovak base and most industrial HU clients also work in English or German with their parent firm. For specific HU deliveries we use Slovak–English communication plus a partner HU translator for documentation.
Regulatory framework
The Hungarian electrical installation standard is MSZ HD 60364 (HU implementation of the HD 60364 series) plus MSZ EN 60204-1 for machinery. Inspections and periodic checks of electrical equipment use EBVF (Erősáramú Berendezések Védelmi Felülvizsgálati Eljárás — protective inspection procedure for high-current equipment), carried out by certified inspectors.
For building decisions OTSZ (Országos Tűzvédelmi Szabályzat — the National Fire Code) plus 54/2014 (V.5.) BM rendelet — the Ministry of Interior decree on construction rules. For occupational safety Mvt 1993/93 (Munkavédelem — labour protection).
For ATEX zones, Directive 2014/34/EU in HU transposition via 22/2010 (V.7.) KvVM rendelet.
Posted Workers — the process
A Slovak supplier in Hungary needs: A1 from Slovak Social Insurance, notification of posting to NAV (Nemzeti Adó- és Vámhivatal — National Tax and Customs Administration) via Munkaügyi Központ at least 14 days before work begins.
Hungarian minimum wage is HUF 290,800/month (current 2025), which is below Slovak. For most sectors a skilled minimum wage also applies (HUF 370,000/month for qualified work). VAT reverse charge under § 142 ÁFA (Általános Forgalmi Adó).
Hungarian industrial profile
Hungary in 2025–2030 is undergoing the fastest battery transformation in the EU. Three plants are reorienting the whole economy:
**CATL Debrecen** — €7.3 billion investment by China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited, the largest EU battery investment outside Germany. Ramping began in 2024, full capacity projected for 2027. For an integrator this means primarily ATEX zones around the electrolyte process, HV/MV distribution infrastructure, SiC power semi connections.
**BYD Auto Szeged** — European EV production hub, ramping 2025. For the supplier orbit, space opens for local and regional suppliers of injection-moulding machines, robotic-cell assembly.
**EVE Energy Hungary** — battery supplier to BMW Debrecen.
**BMW Group Plant Debrecen** — Neue Klasse EV (ramping 2025+, the first fully EV-oriented BMW plant globally).
Outside the battery space, the strongest segment is Audi Hungaria Győr — the largest engine plant in the EU (2 million engines a year, plus Q3 and A3 production). Mercedes Kecskemét produces the CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, EQB. Magyar Suzuki Esztergom the Vitara and S-Cross.
Outside automotive: Bosch Hungary Budapest (Bosch's largest engineering site outside Germany, R&D for automotive and Industry 4.0), Michelin Nyíregyháza (Hungary's largest tyre producer), Linamar Békéscsaba (CNC machining), Continental Automotive (5 plants in various regions).
Our commuting relationship
From Prešov to Miskolc is 2 hours via D1 + M30. For the north-eastern Hungarian counties (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hajdú-Bihar) we're effectively local — we can be on site the same day.
For Budapest, Győr and western Hungary the commute is 4–6 hours. For southern Hungary (Pécs, Szeged, Békéscsaba) 6–8 hours. For longer projects we work Monday-to-Friday as standard with accommodation.
Where we're opening up in Hungary
CATL Debrecen and the surrounding battery cluster — geographically 3 hours from Prešov, technologically relevant to our SiC power semi and HV/MV distribution stack. Actively seeking the first client in the battery supplier network.
Audi Hungaria Győr supplier orbit — interesting for us via the Slovak–Austrian corridor (BMW Steyr → Audi Győr → Mercedes Kecskemét is one geographical entity for supplier mobility).
Mercedes Kecskemét + BYD Szeged automotive supplier — for robotic-cell integration and Sondermaschinenbau.
Bosch Hungary Budapest engineering — for Industry 4.0 and R&D infrastructure as a natural extension of our Software/AI domain.
Language
Hungarian is unintelligible to a Slovak team (a typologically different language — Finno-Ugric group). For practical communication with HU clients we use: English for senior engineering and business contact, Slovak among ourselves on the project, German for German-oriented clients (BMW Debrecen, Mercedes Kecskemét, Audi Győr), and a partner Hungarian translator for formal documentation (inspection reports, ITPs, FAT/SAT protocols) in Hungarian if the client requires.
