Pécs (Five Churches) is geographically the most distant Hungarian regional capital from our eastern Slovak base — almost eight hours' commute across the whole of Hungary. That means for Pécs a typical Slovak supplier doesn't apply; it's a matter of highly specialised contracts where longer project logistics pays off. Baranya megye has a historically strong ceramics, mining (coal, but gradually closing) and engineering industry with its own regional identity.
Elcoteq + Foxconn Pécs — electronic contract manufacturing
Pécs is best known as a European EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) hub — historically via Elcoteq Hungary, which in the 2010s went through acquisition into Foxconn Pécs as part of Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group. For an integrator it's a classic EMS environment: PCB assembly, SMT lines, AOI / X-ray inspection, ESD protocols across the production geography, plus consumer packaging and finished-product logistics.
For us Foxconn Pécs is typologically interesting via `automation` (PLC for SMT lines, MES integration via Critical Manufacturing or Apriso, OPC UA backbones between lines), `electro` (ESD-compatible cabinets, fibre-optic backbone in cleanroom zones), and `industry` (mechanical integration of SMT and packaging workstations). Our `magna-kechnec` project (Magna Slovteca) corresponds to this world typologically — structured cabling, optical backbone, integration into the global IT environment of an EMS firm.
Zsolnay Manufaktúra — porcelain and architectural ceramics
Zsolnay is a historic Pécs brand — porcelain, decorative ceramics, architectural ceramic cladding elements (the Eosin technique is globally unique). For an integrator it's a clientele categorically similar to Meissen or Royal Doulton — historic heritage, continuous demand for refit and maintenance of kilns, glazing workstations, and strict documentation demands through tradition combined with modern IFS protocols.
For us Zsolnay is less priority — it's a niche segment where local specialists (Pannonia Furnace Engineering) have centuries of cooperation with the manufactory. For `electro` (power for kilns, LV distribution) we'd come as specialised subcontractor for specific work packages, not as general contractor.
Hauni Hungaria — cigarette machines
Hauni Hungaria (part of global Hauni Maschinenbau, today Körber Technologies) in Pécs produces machines for the cigarette industry — notably rolling machines and packing lines for Philip Morris, Imperial Brands and JTI brands. For an integrator it's classic Sondermaschinenbau with a very specific application: precision mechanisms, integrated vision-system QC (every cigarette is photographed and verified), MES integration into global tobacco production systems.
For us Hauni is typologically interesting via `industry` (Sondermaschinenbau, mechanical integration) and `automation` (PLC, SCADA, MES). The tobacco industry is a long-term declining segment, but within the EU it transforms towards new products (heated tobacco, vapes) and Hauni is one of few OEMs capable of technically covering this transformation.
Sanatmetal — medical implants
Sanatmetal in Pécs produces orthopaedic and surgical implants — endoprostheses, fixation plates, intramedullary nails, dental implants. For an integrator it's a classic medical device environment under ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820 (for US export), cleanroom zones classified under ISO 14644 (typically ISO 7 or 8 for implant assembly), and strict traceability stack via UDI (Unique Device Identification) system.
For us Sanatmetal is niche but typologically interesting — `automation` (PLC for precision titanium machining, MES with full UDI traceability), `electro` (cleanroom-compatible cabinets), and `industry` (mechanical integration of machining and sterilisation workstations).
Pannon Power MVM — regional energy
Pannon Power MVM (part of MVM Group — Magyar Villamos Művek) operates regional power plants in Baranya megye. For us it's a clientele similar to Slovenské elektrárne — an energy distributor with its own regulatory geography. For `electro` (HV/MV distribution, substations) we're typologically prepared, but it's a segment where domestic competition is held by local specialists (Pannon Power Engineering, MVM Magyar Energetika Engineering) with decades of references.
Our commuting relationship
From Prešov to Pécs via D1 (Prešov–Bratislava) and M6/M60 (Budapest–Pécs) it's realistically 8 hours — the longest Hungarian commute from our eastern Slovak base. For Pécs a one-day trip is impossible, and we'd standardly work Monday-to-Friday mode with accommodation in the city. Alternatively via the Slovenian or Croatian corridor when combining with Balkan projects (Zagreb is only 200 km from Pécs).
For Pécs it will always be a matter of a highly specialised contract for us — a Foxconn Pécs or Hauni Sondermaschinenbau project that justifies the 8-hour commute.
Language
Foxconn Pécs works in English regime — Taiwanese corporation with global working language. Hauni Hungaria (Körber) primarily in German with English project meetings for international cooperation. Sanatmetal in English for US and EU export, Hungarian for the local operating team. For formal documentation in Hungarian we use a partner HU translator.
Conclusion
Pécs is for us a third-tier priority market — geographically distant, requires a specialised contract justifying the 8-hour commute. Foxconn Pécs (EMS), Hauni (Sondermaschinenbau) and Sanatmetal (medical devices) are the only typologically fitting targets. For the first wave of HU expansion Pécs isn't priority; for the second wave (2026–2028) we can consider if a specific specialised contract opens with one of the three main clients.
