The Žilina Region is home to at least two transformational shifts that an industrial integrator can't avoid — Kia, as the only Kia in the European Union, is right now moving from combustion engines to a hybrid and electric platform, and the new Volvo Trucks Slovakia in preparation will transform the northern Slovak cluster from passenger-automotive to commercial-vehicle. For us it's a region where you need to watch carefully which client is writing the 2025 budget and which is already writing 2028.
Kia Slovakia as the baseline environment
Kia Slovakia in Teplička nad Váhom produces the Sportage, Ceed and ProCeed. It's Hyundai Motor Group's only European plant in the EU and Kia's distinctive feature is the Korean approach to quality: rolling audits happen daily on a random sample, the GMS (Global Manufacturing System) has at least four scaling levels (from plant to continent), and every supplier has a precisely defined response-time SLA in MES — for Tier-1 in hours, for Tier-2 in days.
For us it's a familiar environment, where in 2024 we delivered the `industrial-hall-fitout` project in the Žilina Region — electrical installation of an industrial hall integrating ABB, Schneider, DALI-2 lighting and OBO Bettermann system components. For this kind of work, the act of installation isn't what matters most (half the firms in the district can do that), but the ability to deliver an inspection report that passes a Kia Quality Assurance partner audit.
Mobis Slovakia and modular manufacturing
Mobis Slovakia (Hyundai Mobis) in Žilina is a modular supplier to Kia. Modular manufacturing is a technically demanding mode: the supplier doesn't deliver a component, they deliver an entire sub-module (a seat set with integrated electrical system, a door panel with integrated lighting, a complete cockpit) which gets installed directly on the main Kia line in sequence.
For an integrator that means: if you work for Mobis, your delivery date isn't only tied to Kia's plan but also to a Mobis sub-cycle that runs 4 to 8 hours ahead of Kia. No other client in Slovakia has a supplier rhythm this tight.
Schaeffler Skalica + Kysuce as e-mobility pressure
Schaeffler Slovakia has two plants in the Žilina catchment — Skalica (bearings for passenger cars) and Kysuce (Slovakia, a small town with a gigantic e-mobility programme). Schaeffler, as a global supplier in a duel with ZF for BMW, Mercedes and Audi e-drive systems, is exactly the type of client that by 2030 will undergo a 70 percent reconfiguration of production — old bearings for combustion-gearboxes gradually give way to e-drive bearings for integrated electric motors.
For us this means an opportunity to work on refit projects: existing production lines aren't recycled, they're reconfigured under a new product family. Our specialisation in Sondermaschinenbau and robotic-cell integration is exactly what a refit project needs — not just a new machine, but a machine that fits into the existing line with minimum downtime.
Volvo Trucks Slovakia as a future gravitational centre
Volvo Trucks Slovakia (plant in preparation, planned start 2027) will be Volvo Trucks' second EU plant after Tuve in Sweden. For the Žilina Region that means a new supplier orbit currently being formed — Volvo Trucks has its own supplier standards different from Kia's Korean standards, and most suppliers are right now applying for pre-qualification.
At this stage nobody asks us about a finished installation — they ask about the ability to deliver under the Volvo Production System (VPS) with integration via Beckhoff TwinCAT. We're preparing through team training in Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 and calibration of our own documentation template against VPS metrics.
Our commuting relationship
From Prešov it's roughly three to three and a half hours' drive on the D1. The Žilina Region is reachable for us in a two-day contract rhythm, or Monday-to-Friday for longer projects. For quick site visits and meetings we arrive the same day.
In Žilina we have a documented project `industrial-hall-fitout` and we're here twice a year for maintenance and expansions. For Liptov and Kysuce the rhythm is the same, since everything is within an hour of Žilina.
Which pillars fit best
For Kia and Mobis — **Industry + Electro** with regard to the Kia GMS audit standard. There's no room for "let's see how it goes" here — everything must be pre-validated and documented. Our projects for the Kia supplier chain follow a regular workflow: kick-off with Kia QA partner, approval of design documentation, installation, FAT, SAT, handover.
For Schaeffler and e-mobility suppliers — **Automation + Software/AI** with regard to refit projects. SiC power semi integration, high-voltage battery safety (ECE R100 / R136), thermal management via Beckhoff TwinCAT 3.
For the future Volvo Trucks ecosystem — **Industry + Data Centres** with preparation for VPS audits. Now is the time for pre-qualification, since the plant starts ramping up in 2027 and the supplier orbit is getting acquainted right now.
Conclusion
The Žilina Region is about cleanly delivered work that passes traditional automotive audits (Kia GMS, Hyundai Mobis sub-supplier, future Volvo VPS) and about readiness for what's coming — the e-mobility transformation, which will hit northern Slovakia harder than any other region.
