Brașov is the centre of the Transylvanian industrial cluster with notable **German-Austrian capital ties** — Schaeffler, Premium Aerotec, Stabilus, Continental. For an integrator it's a city where global QMS, IATF and Airbus supplier standards aren't an exception but a standard starting bar. Geographically Brașov lies in the middle of the Carpathians on the route between Bucharest and Sibiu, making it a commute-wise **moderately demanding** but strategically very important destination.
Schaeffler România Brașov — bearings and e-mobility
**Schaeffler România Brașov** is part of the global Schaeffler Group — German producer of **rolling bearings, linear guides, precision components for e-mobility** (stators for EV motors, gearbox components for hybrids). Schaeffler Brașov together with the sister **INA Schaeffler Brașov-Cristian** (10 km west) form one of the most important industrial clusters in the city. INA Cristian specialises in **industrial servo-axes** — high-precision linear drives for machine tools, assembly lines, semiconductor manipulators.
For us Schaeffler is a natural candidate via our **Industry + Automation** pillar. Our specialisation in Sondermaschinenbau (special-purpose machines), robotic integration (KUKA, ABB, FANUC, Yaskawa) and motion control (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Siemens SIMOTION, SEW Movitools) meets what the Schaeffler supplier orbit needs when launching a new product or refitting an existing line. The global Schaeffler QMS operates the same in Wuppertal as in Brașov — for a team with DE project history it's home turf.
Premium Aerotec Brașov — aerospace structures for Airbus
**Premium Aerotec Brașov** is an Airbus Group subsidiary (since 2017 fully integrated) — producer of **aerospace structures** (fuselage sections, wing panels, hatches for A320 family, A350). For an integrator Premium Aerotec means an environment with an **EASA Part-21 organisation** (production of aviation parts), **AS9100D** (aerospace quality management), **NADCAP** accreditation for special processes (surface treatments, NDT, heat treatment). This is a step stricter framework than automotive IATF — every single part has **full material genealogy** with traceability back to the specific aluminium ingot melt.
For us Premium Aerotec is reachable via **administrative IT, office fit-outs, structured cabling in test zones and peripheral spaces** — for core aerospace production special clearance and supplier qualification are needed, built by specialised aerospace integration firms. Our position here is realistic, not overvalued.
Stabilus Brașov — gas springs and dampers
**Stabilus Brașov** is the Romanian plant of the global Stabilus Group — producer of **gas springs** (automotive — hatches, hoods, seat ergonomics), **linear dampers** (industrial, medical, office furniture). For an integrator Stabilus means a classic automotive supplier environment — IATF 16949, VDA 6.3 process audits, integration into the global Stabilus MES.
For us Stabilus is interesting via **end-of-line QC** — every gas spring must pass pressure testing, leak testing (helium leak detection), and a functional test in charge cycle. Vision-based QC for surface defects, AOI for injected plastic components. Our project history in Krauss-Maffei series projects and injection-moulding contracts (`automotive-injection-line` 2024 in Bratislava, `rehau-feuchtwangen` 2019) has clear application.
Continental Automotive Brașov — automotive electronics
**Continental Automotive Brașov** is the second Continental plant in Romania (after Timișoara) — specialising in **automotive electronics**, control units for braking and steering systems. For us the same applies as for Continental Timișoara — a natural candidate via the Automation + Electro pillar.
Regulatory framework
For electrical installations **I7-2011** plus **NTE 007/08/00**. For building permits **Lege 50/1991**. For occupational safety **Codul Muncii (Legea 53/2003)** + **HG 1146/2006**. For Premium Aerotec, on top of the Romanian framework, **EASA Part-21**, **AS9100D** and **NADCAP** accreditation for special processes apply. For Schaeffler and Continental, **IATF 16949** and global plant QMSs apply.
Our commuting relationship
Brașov lies in the middle of the Carpathians — from Bucharest 170 km via **DN1 Predeal** (3 hours) or via the new **A3 Comarnic-Brașov** when completed. From Prešov realistically **by air via Bucharest** (KSC → OTP → by car 3 h via Predeal to Brașov) or **via Sibiu** (Krakow → Sibiu (SBZ) → by car 2.5 h). For Brașov we run **multi-day phases** with team rotation, not one-day trips. For Romanian administration (ITM Brașov, ISCIR) we communicate via the Bucharest office.
The new **Brașov-Ghimbav airport (GHV)**, opened in late 2023 and in full operation from 2025, significantly improves commuting — when slot times are attractive, GHV will be priority over Bucharest OTP with the motorway.
Cross-border regime
Standard regime for Romania — **ITM notification 30 days in advance** + **A1 from Slovak Social Insurance**. For German capital in Brașov (Schaeffler, Premium Aerotec, Stabilus, Continental) clients appreciate a **German-Slovak-English-Romanian** language combination available through the Bratislava team + Bucharest office.
Where it pays to come to us in Brașov
Schaeffler bearings and e-mobility — primary candidate via Industry + Automation, with a reference package from DE projects. INA Schaeffler servo-axes — motion control specialisation. Continental Brașov — same profile as Timișoara. Stabilus — end-of-line QC and injection-moulding experience. Premium Aerotec — administrative IT and peripheral zones, not core aerospace production.
Conclusion
Brașov is for us a natural target for the German-oriented Transylvanian industrial cluster. The geographic distance across the Carpathians is a real constraint, but the market structure — Schaeffler, Premium Aerotec, Stabilus, Continental — is exactly in the profile where our DE/SK project references have clear application. The new GHV airport from 2025 improves commuting, and multi-day phases with rotation are our standard operating regime for Brașov.
