Utrecht is geographically the centre of the Netherlands and logistically the most accessible place for anyone moving between Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Eindhoven. For an integrator, however, it isn't a primarily industrial city — it's an IT services hub, a financial centre of the agricultural sector, and a railway infrastructure node for the whole of the Netherlands.
Rabobank HQ and agricultural finance
Rabobank is headquartered in Utrecht and is the largest agricultural bank in the European Union — financing farmers, dairy industry, greenhouse operations, fish farming, and the whole connected food supply chain. For an integrator that means a profile similar to any large European bank: structured cabling in the headquarters, AV installations for executive meeting rooms, data centre capacity for transaction systems, smart-building control in renovated offices.
Rabobank-Utrecht has its own DC capacities plus colocation partner usage (Equinix AM-series). For us the relevant segment is peripheral IT — refresh of structured cabling, fibre backbone between buildings on the Rabobank campus, AV integration to the MS Teams Rooms standard, smart-building reconstructions. No core banking system, but plenty of physical IT infrastructure.
IT services cluster — Capgemini, Centric, Atos
Utrecht is home to the largest IT services cluster in the Netherlands. Capgemini Nederland has its main location in Utrecht (Le Mirage Building on Papendorpseweg), Centric is HQ here (the largest Dutch IT outsourcing for local government and education), Atos Origin has a large delivery centre in Utrecht for banking and public administration.
For an integrator that means a supplier chain oriented through consortia — Capgemini as tier-1 implementer often needs tier-2 hardware suppliers for physical IT infrastructure (servers, racks, cabling, cooling). For us this is a realistically accessible entry — pre-qualification in the Capgemini Partner Network or the Atos hardware supplier program, and gradual growth through delivered partial contracts.
ProRail and railway infrastructure
ProRail is the Dutch railway infrastructure operator — a parallel of ŽSR or DB Netz. It has its headquarters in Utrecht (Inktpot Building, Moreelsepark) and runs the entire 7,000 km of tracks, 400 stations, and complete signalling and traction systems. For an integrator it's a world with its own regulatory geography — ProRail Norm (PN) standards, CENELEC EN 50126/50128/50129 for safety-critical signalling, and TSI (Technical Specifications for Interoperability) at European level.
Entry into the ProRail supplier chain goes through ProRail Inkoop tendering and typically through consortium with a Dutch tier-1 (Strukton Rail, BAM Infra Rail, Volker Wessels). For a Slovak supplier without ProRail Norm pre-qualification this is a closed orbit; for peripheral IT in ProRail offices (structured cabling, AV, smart-building) we're accessible.
Utrecht data centre geography
Utrecht has its own data centre hosting — primarily smaller regional DCs for local government and university research centres (Universiteit Utrecht has its own HPC for physics and chemistry computation). For an integrator there's smaller but stable demand here — refresh of cabling in the university DC, expansion of cooling capacity for new HPC racks, DCIM integration on top of existing monitoring stacks.
Our commuting relationship
Utrecht is from AMS Schiphol about 35 minutes by direct train (Intercity Direct via Hoofddorp and Schiphol) or 40 minutes by car. For projects in Utrecht and in the broader context (Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Eindhoven), Utrecht is an ideal accommodation base — from here commuting distances to all major NL cities under an hour.
By air via AMS Schiphol from Košice (about 2.5 h), accommodation standardly for 1 to 4 weeks depending on contract scope.
Which pillars fit best
For the IT services cluster (Capgemini, Atos, Centric) — **Data Centres + Software/AI**. Peripheral IT infrastructure within these firms' tier-2 supplier programs. Servers, racks, cabling, cooling, DCIM. Our home zone for AI cluster and edge DC work, verified via `edge-datacenter-telco` and `ai-cluster-research-lab`.
For Rabobank, ING Service Center and similar banking-IT operations — **Electro + Software/AI**. Structured cabling in HQ, fibre backbone between buildings on campus, AV installations, smart-building reconstructions via Schneider EcoStruxure or Siemens Desigo.
For ProRail and Dutch railway peripheral IT work — **Electro + Data Centres**. Without ProRail Norm pre-qualification only in non-safety-critical zones (offices, training centres, NOC support buildings).
What you shouldn't yet ask us about in Utrecht
ProRail safety-critical signalling — requires ProRail Norm pre-qualification and a CENELEC EN 50128/50129 certified engineering team.
Rabobank core banking systems — primarily for global IT consulting firms with decades of banking history (Accenture, IBM Global Services, EY Belgium).
Public administration via Centric outsourcing — primarily for Dutch tier-1 firms with references in the Slovak equivalents of MPSVR and MV SR.
