Murcia is for us in Región de Murcia the main strategic node — notably via the petrochemical cluster in Cartagena with Repsol Refinería (Spain's largest refinery) and Sabic Cartagena. From Prešov it's a 4-hour flight via VIE or FRA to RMU Región de Murcia or AGP Málaga with a stopover. We have no overland commute — Murcia is exclusively an air market.
Repsol Refinería Cartagena — Spain's largest refinery
Repsol Refinería Cartagena (45 km from Murcia, in the port of Cartagena) is Spain's largest refinery with capacity of 11 million tonnes of oil a year. For an integrator it's an environment where ATEX (Directive 2014/34/EU transposed via RD 144/2016) determines every technical decision. Intrinsically safe equipment, EPL Gb/Db classification by atmosphere, SIL-3 hazard analysis (IEC 61511) for every PLC update.
For us Repsol Cartagena is the same category as Slovnaft Bratislava — for an integrator with ATEX and SIL focus a deliverable environment, but with a stricter vendor prequalification process. For cross-border suppliers Repsol requires:
- A1 paperwork standard, - comunicación de desplazamiento via REC 5 days in advance, - Repsol Contractor Management System (CMS) registration, - TPC (Tarjeta Profesional de la Construcción) or equivalent certificate for work in ATEX zones, - valid accreditation under STN EN 60079 (or equivalent UNE-EN 60079) for EPL Db rating.
Our people have qualifications under STN EN 60079, EPL Db rating and annual practice in ATEX zones from the Bratislava Slovnaft experience. For Repsol Cartagena we're directly transferable — without a delivered Cartagena project we don't yet have a local name, but the technology and process competencies are essentially identical.
Sabic Cartagena — petrochemicals
Sabic Cartagena (neighbouring location to the Repsol complex) is a petrochemical producer of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and butadiene. For an integrator a similar regime applies as for Repsol Cartagena — ATEX zones, intrinsically safe equipment, SIL-3 SCADA architecture.
Adjacent to Repsol, Sabic is part of the Valle de Escombreras petrochemical cluster — the largest in the southern Mediterranean. For us it's a segment where we move through a subcontractor model for core process work and direct deliveries for administrative/IT zones and maintenance refit projects.
ELPOZO Alimentación, Hero España, G's España
ELPOZO Alimentación is Spain's largest meat industry with HQ in Alhama de Murcia (35 km from Murcia). For an integrator the segment is similar to Heineken Seville — process production with HACCP regime, integration of AOI inspection for packaging lines, MES tracking of each batch's genealogy. For us directly deliverable via Industry + Automation.
Hero España is a Swiss food group with ES HQ in Alcantarilla (5 km from Murcia) — production of baby food, jams, fruit drinks. For us the same segment as ELPOZO — process production with HACCP, automation of final QC.
G's España (San Javier) is an EU agricultural leader — cultivation and packaging of salads, fresh fruits and vegetables for the whole European retail. For an integrator G's is interesting via the combination of agriculture (greenhouse automation, precise drip irrigation, climate control) and process production (packaging lines, RFID tagging for fresh produce, integration of automated warehouses).
Regulatory framework — Región de Murcia
Murcia operates under the national REBT (RD 842/2002), UNE-HD 60364, UNE-EN 60204-1 and ATEX transposition via RD 144/2016. Comunidad Autónoma de la Región de Murcia adds a regional authorisation layer — Consejería de Empresa, Empleo, Universidades y Portavocía. For building permits CTE plus Murcia implementing decree.
For the petrochemical segment additionally ITC-BT-29 (special low-voltage environments), ITC-BT-30 (special lighting in ATEX zones), plus internal Repsol CMS or Sabic SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) documentation. For food HACCP plus UNE-EN ISO 22000 and internal client QMS.
Posted Workers — REC for Murcia
REC registration 5 days in advance remains national; for Murcia a regional copy isn't required. For Repsol Cartagena internal CMS process is added, for Sabic own vendor prequalification. SMI €1,184/month plus Convenio Colectivo Estatal de Industria, Tecnología y Servicios del Sector del Metal.
Our commuting relationship
For Murcia we work exclusively by air. For Cartagena (45 km south of Murcia) accommodation typically in La Manga del Mar Menor or Cartagena city. For Alhama de Murcia (ELPOZO) accommodation in Alhama village. Rolling-team regime for repeat cooperation, two-week minimum scope.
Which pillars fit best
For Repsol Cartagena and Sabic — **Electro + Industry** with strong ATEX and SIL focus. The Bratislava Slovnaft experience is directly transferable; vendor prequalification via Repsol CMS is an additional process investment done after the first confirmed contact.
For ELPOZO, Hero, G's España — **Industry + Automation** with focus on HACCP, automated QC and integration of MES tracking of genealogy. Here we're directly deliverable without additional onboarding.
Conclusion
In Murcia we're in an active acquisition phase. The Repsol Cartagena petrochemical cluster is a segment where we have directly transferable expertise from Slovnaft Bratislava — for the first Murcia client we're ready with a rolling-team regime and complete ATEX documentation kit.
