Málaga is for us in Spain a unique strategic target — not as a classic industrial node, but as an IT/cybersecurity hub in a growing phase. The Google Málaga Cybersecurity Engineering Hub (since 2024) and Vodafone Innovation Hub Málaga are two anchors that make the city the second-strongest tech cluster in southern Spain after Barcelona. From Prešov it's a 4-hour flight via VIE or FRA to AGP Málaga, with a stopover in Madrid. We have no overland commute.
Google Málaga Cybersecurity Engineering Hub
Google opened a strategic cybersecurity engineering hub in Málaga in 2024 — the result of the acquisition of VirusTotal (founded in Málaga in 2004). The hub functions as a Google Cloud Security operations centre with focus on threat intelligence, malware analysis and zero-day research. For an integrator with expertise in data centre build-out and high-density compute infrastructure, it's a client with continuous demand for:
- DCIM rollout (Google uses an internal stack, but supplier work on fibre backbone and power distribution is outsourced), - structured cabling in office space expansions, - AI cluster build-out for smaller research labs (NVIDIA Blackwell, Mellanox NDR, Slurm orchestration), - ESD and clean-zone protocols for lab spaces.
Our `ai-cluster-research-lab` project (Cluj-Napoca, 2025) — NVIDIA Blackwell, Slurm + Pyxis, NCCL benchmark verification — is a directly transferable type of work. For Google supplier work a strict Vendor Security Assessment process (VSA), SOC 2 Type II audit and internal Google Cloud Trust framework apply.
Vodafone Innovation Hub Málaga
Vodafone Innovation Hub Málaga is an R&D centre for 5G and IoT — research of next-gen mobile networks, edge compute, smart-city applications. For an integrator it's relevant via Data Centres + Software/AI pillar — DCIM, edge compute capacity (Vertiv SmartMod, Schneider EcoStruxure Modular), integration of 5G base station infrastructure.
For us Vodafone is interesting via a parallel segment to Madrid Telefónica HQ — telecom-grade infrastructure with its own SLA regime and Tier III/IV reliability requirements.
TDK Headway Málaga, Mayoral, Pendle Innovation Centre
TDK Headway Málaga is a manufacturer of industrial electronics — magnetoresistive sensors for HDD and IoT applications. For us it's a pure process-production segment with cleanroom zones (ESD protocols, ISO Class 6-7) and high-precision motion control. Mayoral is a global exporter of children's clothing with its own HQ and logistics hub in Málaga — relevant via automated warehouses and RFID tagging. Pendle Innovation Centre is an R&D incubator for tech start-ups — relevant via smaller HPC and AI cluster build-out projects.
Andalusia 2 — Málaga vs Seville
In terms of comunidad autónoma Málaga is part of Andalusia (same regulatory geography as Seville — Junta de Andalucía, regional authorisation via Industria, Energía y Minas). In terms of business profile they're two different worlds — Seville is aerospace and process production (Airbus DS, Heineken, Abengoa), Málaga is IT/cybersec and digital R&D. For us that means two different pillar focuses in the same autonomous area.
Regulatory framework — Andalusia
Málaga operates under the national REBT (RD 842/2002), UNE-HD 60364 and UNE-EN 60204-1. Junta de Andalucía adds a regional authorisation layer — Industria, Energía y Minas, equipment registration via Boletín Oficial Junta de Andalucía. For building permits CTE plus Andalusian implementing decree, for inspections OCA accredited by ENAC.
For data centre work ITC-BT-43 is added for IT equipment, EN 50600 series for data centre design (availability classification, energy efficiency), and internal Google or Vodafone vendor specification. For AI cluster build-out, UNE-EN 60204-1 for machinery plus internal supplier framework are relevant.
Posted Workers — REC for Andalusia
REC registration 5 days in advance. SMI €1,184/month plus Convenio Colectivo for IT/telecom segment. For Google supplier work an internal VSA documentation with background check for key personnel is added. Cross-border VAT via Art. 84 LIVA reverse-charge.
Our commuting relationship
For Málaga we work exclusively by air. For Google Hub (Málaga TechPark in Campanillas, 8 km north of the centre) accommodation typically in Torremolinos or Benalmádena. Rolling-team regime for repeat cooperation, two-week minimum scope.
Which pillars fit best
For Google Cybersecurity Hub and Vodafone Innovation Hub — **Data Centres + Software/AI**. DCIM rollout, AI cluster build-out, structured cabling in office space expansions. Our `ai-cluster-research-lab` project from Cluj-Napoca is directly transferable.
For TDK Headway and process production — **Industry + Automation** with focus on cleanroom zones, ESD protocols and high-precision motion control.
For Mayoral and logistics hubs — **Industry + Software/AI** with focus on automated warehouses, RFID tagging and integration via `packaging-relocation` type work.
Conclusion
Málaga is for us strategically interesting as a growing IT/cybersec hub in southern Europe — a segment where we have directly transferable competencies from Romanian AI cluster and edge data centre projects. Without a delivered Málaga project we don't yet have a local name, but the technology stack for data centre, AI cluster and digital R&D supplier work is ready. For the first client via Google or Vodafone supplier chain we're ready with a rolling-team regime.
