Five years ago Magdeburg would have been a typical post-Soviet industrial region in a phase of slow transformation. In 2022 that changed — Intel announced a €30 billion investment in the largest EU semiconductor fab right next to Magdeburg. Planned ramp 2027–2029, the first clean production zones start construction in 2025, sub-tier supplier chains start local procurement already from 2024. For an integrator, Saxony-Anhalt is at this moment one of the most-watched addresses in Germany.
We don't yet operate directly in Magdeburg
In Magdeburg itself we haven't yet completed a project under a full client name. That's honest information up front — Saxony-Anhalt as a whole is a market we're opening up to via the Intel ramp-up. Our typologically closest references are: `vacuum-mechatronic-de` from Bayern (2023 — HV/UHV vacuum chambers for the semiconductor industry, under NDA) — that's our strongest card for any German semiconductor demand, including Magdeburg. Secondarily `automotive-injection-line` from Bratislava (2024 — Siemens TIA Portal + Ignition SCADA + KraussMaffei + Engel + Yushin) as a reference for complex production integration.
Intel Magdeburg — €30 billion EU fab investment
Intel Magdeburg is essentially the only currently planned semiconductor fab investment in the European Union at the €30 billion mark (formally €17 billion Intel + €10 billion German state support under the European Chips Act, the rest additional). Planned technology is Intel 18A/14A — the most advanced semiconductor process, which will be in ramp-up mode 2027–2029. For a Slovak integrator that means the following demand waves:
The auxiliary buildings layer (offices, warehouses, IT infrastructure, R&D laboratories) — a typological match for our profile, fully reachable. Structured cabling, optical backbone (CommScope or Corning), DCIM rollout for the local data centre (EcoStruxure IT), UPS sizing (Eaton 93PM), EPLAN-designed cabinets (Rittal). That's our entire `electro + data centres` portfolio.
The subassembly Tier-2 suppliers layer (injection-moulding for packaging components, assembly lines, vacuum chambers, ESD-protected workstations) — that's the segment where our Bavarian `vacuum-mechatronic` reference goes directly. For specific Tier-2 procurement via Intel-audited suppliers a path typically opens via category C (administrative fit-outs), then category B (cabinets, mechanical integration), all the way to a verified A entry into the direct technology supplier chain.
The clean production layer (front-end of line) — that's not our level. Here ASML Engineering, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, Lam Research operate with their own installation teams and long-term exclusive agreements with semiconductor clients.
Salzgitter Mannesmann + Bayer Bitterfeld + Dow Schkopau
Saxony-Anhalt outside Intel has its traditional industrial tier:
Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel is an all-German steel wholesaler with logistics nodes in Magdeburg — for `industry + electro` (administrative fit-outs, IT infrastructure, warehouse-geography automation) we're reachable via the `packaging-relocation` reference from Košice (RFID tagging + heavy-lift logistics + re-qualification).
Bayer Bitterfeld (40 km south) is a chemical-pharma complex with full ATEX overlay (zones 0/1/2). Dow Schkopau (Halle, 100 km south) is similarly a chemical cluster. For full-scope chemical work we don't operate; for peripheral tasks in administrative and IT zones we're deliverable.
Enercon Magdeburg — wind turbine production
Enercon has a production location in Magdeburg for wind turbines (notably generator components and control electronics). For `industry + automation` (Sondermaschinenbau, robotic integration) we're typologically close, but Enercon has its own supplier register with preference for German and Dutch entities.
BauO LSA + BetrSichV + DGUV V3
Building decisions in Saxony-Anhalt follow Bauordnung Sachsen-Anhalt (BauO LSA). For the Intel ramp-up a special decree on accelerated review for large industrial projects was approved — Intel-related buildings go through a priority planning process with a reduced time frame. Electrical installations follow VDE 0100, inspections DGUV V3, operational safety BetrSichV. For clean production zones ANSI/ESD S20.20 adds (ESD certification for workstations and floors).
Conclusion — Magdeburg as a single-bet Intel reference target
Magdeburg is for us in 2026 a strategic single-bet market — the Intel ramp-up is a unique opportunity for a Slovak integrator to enter the semiconductor supplier chain at ground floor position. From Prešov it's a 10-hour drive on D1 / A4, putting us in weekly accommodation for most projects. For the first Magdeburg demand we bring the reference `vacuum-mechatronic-de` from Bayern plus the whole German industrial orbit (Krauss-Maffei, Uniper, Nolte, Akon) and the standard A1 + ZOLL Meldeportal Mindestlohn documentation. For Magdeburg itself we don't yet operate directly, but we track the ramp-up with detailed attention.
